The answer to the question

This was purely unintentional on my part ... but after putting these two photos here I looked at them and realised that they carry a message. In the first photo, the girl is holding an anthurium in her hands. Someone to her side also has an anthurium in his/her hands. You can see a piece of it. Anthuriums are heart shaped ... and many people in Saturday's procession were carrying them ... as a symbol of Love, I would imagine. The second photo (which I took after the whole march was over), shows two discarded anthuriums in the drain. To me, the statement being made is this: the answer is in our hands. We must not throw it down the drain.

That's an astute observation.

I would add, that each one of us has the power to make change in society, to find the Love and spread the word. Even the smallest efforts are significant. And part of the task is developing that capacity - in ourselves and in others.

It sounds like the march was very worthwhile and inspiring. Too often, rallies like that become empty political gestures. Sounds like this one had heart. Now, if the government will just listen...

True. Whether or not they will listen ... they have heard.

First off something of this magnitude was long over due. Honestly i felt the March has done nothing significant to the situation in my country...i am really surprised that it didn't turn into a big party session. To me the images show how quickly we become disinterested in something. As quickly as the march ended so did some people faith in the likely hood that changes would come?
The real protest should be to not have Carnival next year. The people need to understand that it is for the best. The middle and upper class society that still seem to be living in a bubble need to understand how real the crime situation is. Many of my friends still act like nothing is going on. It is only by putting a temporary end to Carnival can every body realizes how serious the situation is. The bombings that are taking place are just a test … that is leading up to something big just wait and see…Carnival 06 is going to be trouble..something just doesn't feel right, the whole vibe.

Sometimes in life we have to make scarifies and not having carnival is one the country needs.

Despite my views I am really glad that so many people showed up to the Death March.
May those who have lost their lives rest in peace.
